Mugsy Creations Origin Story
I blame Harry Potter for all of this!
In a good way:) As Halloween 2022 approached I had a strong and unexpected urge to give kids something special and whimsical. It seemed as if the nearly 2.5 years of chaos had rocked their little worlds and ours to the point where it just felt like they needed something full of light and not heavy, something special and something "MAGICAL." Heck...I felt like we all needed it. My brain immediately locked onto Harry Potter. Somehow, I was going to turn our yard into a Harry Potter Extravaganza!
The igniting of a creative spark!
Armed with an idea, some paint, and 20 years of experience as a mental health counselor (which honestly just pushed me to make this as lighthearted as possible), I got to work. One project led to another. It felt good to be driven by the sheer hope that some child/parent/person or neighbor might experience a few minutes of pure magic. My hope was that they would forget about everything else that weighs them down and just be able to be in that moment. And that is what happened. WE ALL HAD A BLAST! I channeled my best McGonagall in the hopes of helping kids feel how magical they were by being able to light up pumpkins and corral mischievous pixies with the flick of their wand.
The magic lives on!
I did not expect feeling so happy before, during and after the event. Nor did I expect the void I felt on November 1st. Now what? The thought occurred to me, "Why do I need to wait to make magical things until Halloween?" I realized I didn't have to wait! The wonderous era of childhood had captured my heart.
I began making things that I hoped would make the special moments in people's lives even more special. Life is hard. 20 years of being a counselor and being alive has taught me that. So, it seems to me that when these special events in our lives come around, we should savor them, hold onto them tightly and celebrate them fully. Fond memories provide a warm glow through dark times. I am so hoping that Mugsy Creations can add some vibrant color, whimsy and magic to your already special moments. I truly believe that if we try, "Sometimes a moment of magic can last a lifetime." That's where the slogan came from. "Mugsy" is the nickname my grandpa called me when I was little. He was a wonderful carpenter and creative beyond imagine. He was the 1st person I did creative projects with, so the name seemed fitting. I can't wait to see if we can add some magic to your special moment!
